How to pay less
Book the moment tickets open (roughly six months ahead on ÖBB Nightjet); travel mid-week rather than Friday or Sunday; take a couchette rather than a sleeper if you don't need a private cabin; and, if you're stringing several night trains together, price up an Interrail Global Pass (remember seat and couchette reservations are extra). Our guide to booking sleeper trains cheaper has every legitimate trick.
Questions, answered
How much is the night train from Brussels to Vienna?
Fares start from around €29.90 for a seat, with a private cabin from about €69. Prices are demand-priced on the ÖBB Nightjet and rise as the train fills, so book early for the lowest fare.
Does the Brussels to Vienna sleeper run every night?
It runs 3 nights a week (Mon, Wed, Fri). Departures are limited, and the cheapest couchettes and cabins are released roughly six months ahead and sell first — especially in summer.
What time does it leave and arrive?
It departs Bruxelles-Midi / Brussel-Zuid at approximately ~19:06 and arrives Wien Hauptbahnhof at about ~10:13 the next morning — a journey of around ~15h.
What is the difference between a couchette and a sleeper?
A couchette is a shared compartment with simple bunks (you share with other passengers unless you book the whole compartment). A sleeper is a proper private cabin with made-up beds and a washbasin, and deluxe versions add an en-suite shower.
Can I get breakfast?
Yes — a light breakfast is included in couchette and sleeper fares on the ÖBB Nightjet, brought to your compartment before arrival. Seats do not include breakfast.
